I presented a paper at Leiden University’s Third Global Transformations and Governance Challenges conference in the Hague. The paper, co-authored with Daniëlle Flonk at Hitotsubashi University, looks at China's changing institutional strategies in global internet governance.

4-7 April 2024

I presented my research in progress at the annual convention of the International Studies Association in San Francisco. It was great to be back at the ISA in person for the first time in several years.

I am happy to see my piece "China and the Limits of Hypothetical Hegemony" published in Security Studies

In the piece, I argue that we need to go beyond theoretical ideal types to investigate more empirically and systematically China’s role in building order.

It is a response to Darren Lim and John Ikenberry's article "China and the Logic of Illiberal Hegemony" from 2023. Find the authors' reply here

14-15 December 2023

I participated in a workshop on autocratic states and international organizations at the Global Transformations and Governance Challenges centre of Leiden University in the Hague. The workshop was genially hosted by Prof. Antoaneta Dimitrova and Prof. Daniel Thomas. I am looking forward to the follow-up workshop at the ECPR Joint Sessions 2024 in Lüneburg.

I presented a paper on China's human rights forums at the meeting of the Themengruppe Internationale Organisationen of the German Political Science Association in Jena.  The meeting was graciously hosted by Prof. Dr. Christian Kreuder-Sonnen.

I presented a paper on the panel "China and the Liberal International Order" at the Annual Conference of the Political Economy Section of the German Political Science Association (DVPW), at Witten/Herdecke University. The panel was organized by Prof. Dr. Tobias ten Brink.

I presented my paper "Maximizing Control and Flexibility: China-led Competitive Regime Creation through Informal Forums" at the International Studies Association Asia-Pacific Region Conference 2023, Tokyo.

Together with Dr. Matthias Kranke, I presented our working paper "The End of Globalization? What International Political Economy Can Offer the Deglobalization Debate" at the International Relations section conference of the German Political Science Association at the Zeppelin University in Friedrichshafen.

I presented my working paper "Entangled Hegemonies: China's Rise and Gradual Change in International Order" at the Global Governance research unit colloquium at the WZB. Robust discussions ensued.

My response to Darren J. Lim and G. John Ikenberry's article "China and the Logic of Illiberal Hegemony" was accepted for publication in the journal Security Studies. It is entitled "China and the Limits of Hypothetical Hegemony". I am looking forward to the authors' reply in the forthcoming issue.
